Tennessee Nursing Home Faces Wrongful Death Lawsuit Over Broken Femur Fall

A Tennessee nursing home has been sued for $2 million by the family of a 90-year-old woman who died after a hammock sling broke, causing her to fall and break her femur.
The wrongful death lawsuit, brought by the family of Ann Brightwell, was filed against Cambridge House nursing home in late September in the Bristol, Tennessee General Sessions Court. The family claims that Brightwell was being moved from a bed to a wheelchair by Cambridge House employees with a hammock sling when the sling broke in February. She fell and shattered her femur, and died of complications from the broken bone several months later on June 16, according to the medical examiner’s report.
The family accuses the nursing home of using old, worn-out equipment, and has obtained depositions from several former employees who say that complaints about the equipment were ignored. The employees also say administrators ordered them to hide old, worn out equipment whenever inspectors came to review the facility.
