US News and World Report Lists Best Nursing Homes

An October 5 article by U.S. News and World Report lists the rankings of 15,000 best nursing homes nationwide, as well as a list of the best and worst nursing homes for each state.

The annual nursing home report found that Alaska was the state with the highest percentage of facilities that received five-star federal ratings, the highest rating possible for quality nursing home care. Thirty-three percent of Alaska nursing homes, 15 in total, were five-star facilities. Alaska was followed, in order, by nursing homes in Hawaii, Washington DC, Maine, Nevada, Alabama, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Delaware, and New Hampshire.

The facilities were judged by three categories: health inspections, nurse staffing and individual quality measures. There were 34 “perfect” nursing home facilities nationwide, which
received the best possible score in all three categories.
