Budget Cuts May Cause Problems for Connecticut Nursing Homes
Published: December 9th, 2009 • No Comments
A proposed 2% cut in state funding for Connecticut nursing homes has some health care advocates concerned about the quality of nursing home care in the state.
Matthew Barrett, executive vice president of the Connecticut Association of Health Care Facilities, says that the cuts would endanger care in a state that already has a troubled nursing home system. Barrett said that the cuts would threaten the quality of care for 28,000 individuals who use Connecticut nursing homes and could endanger those who require 24-hour care. The cuts could also negatively affect the state’s nursing home workers, Barrett said.
The cuts have been proposed by Republican Governor M. Jodi Rell. However, they must be approved by the state’s legislature, which is currently controlled by Democrats.
