Records Reveal Fraud after Nursing Home Death in Pittsburgh

An employee at a Pennsylvania nursing home allegedly forged Medicaid reimbursement forms and faked medical charts for a patient who had died, according to local media.

An investigation by WTAE-News, an ABC affiliate, alleges that an employee at Scottsdale Manor in Westmoreland County, near Scottsdale, forged the signature of Rita Wilson, the daughter of a resident at the home, on a Medicaid reimbursement form. The nursing home took “disciplinary action” against the employee, and was never fined or cited by the state.

Wilson put her father, Gene Cable, in the home in November of 2008. He died six days later, but a nurse recorded him as having gone to the bathroom on his medical charts after he was dead, Wilson said. The nurse also received disciplinary action. The nursing home was cleared of any charges of nursing home neglect in connection to Cable’s death by state investigators.
