Resident’s Broken Shoulder Leads to Florida Group Home Probe

A Florida group home is under investigation for possible allegations of nursing home abuse after a man with cerebral palsy suffered a broken shoulder after staff members restrained him.
Bryan Barborka, 26, suffered a broken shoulder and severe chest bruising last week after staff members at Springs Group Home in Apopka attempted to restrain him. Barborka suffers from cerebral palsy and is paralyzed and blind on his right side.
Staffers told state investigators that Barborka had been displaying behavioral problems at about 6 p.m. Wednesday night, and he was restrained as a result. But the following morning he was sent to a local hospital and diagnosed as having a broken shoulder. Barborka had to undergo surgery to have a rod placed into the shoulder, according to CFNews13.com.
Barborka’s mother, Linda, questions the amount of force used to restrain her son, and told local media that she could not understand how no one felt or heard his shoulder break. The incident is being investigated by several state agencies, and the Florida Department of Children and Families has the home, which cares for 11 other patients, under surveillance.
Officials at the home say they have taken all staff members involved with the incident off the work schedule until the state’s investigations are completed.

THEY SHOULD LOCK THAT ASSHOLE UP!! THER WAS A MAN LOCKED UP ABOUT A MONTH AGO THAT SLAPPED A HANDICAPPED MAN!! I WONDER IF THE STATES ATTTORNEYS OFFICE IS GOING TO SWEEP THIS ONE UNDER THE CARPET.
